Letter from Pastor for August 2020

The anxiety about COVID 19 continues to be high in Texas and elsewhere in the United States and the world.   Although renewed shutdown of the economy does not seem to be in the forecast, enforced mask protocols abound.  Students, teachers and families with children are struggling to decide how to deal with the challenges of starting school again.  Nursing homes continue to be locked down, many events involving in person interactions are being cancelled or postponed.  What if there was a way to stop the virus in its tracks?  Way before this present crisis,  a promising weapon against the virus was discovered:

“The Virology Journal - the official publication of Dr. Faucis National Institutes of Health - published  an article on August 22, 2005, with the title- Chloroquine is a potent inhibitor of SARS coronavirus infection and spread.” We report...that chloroquine has strong antiviral effects on SARS-CoV infection of primate cells. These inhibitory effects are observed when the cells are treated with the drug either before or after exposure to the virus, suggesting both prophylactic(preventative) and therapeutic(healing) advantage.”

In the past few months, controversy about Hydro-chloroquine raged after President Trump mentioned how effective it was.  The media supported by some medical experts waged what some called “jihad” against the drug. Any movement to harness the effectiveness of the drug slowed dramatically but did not stop altogether.  Recently “front line” doctors reported that they had used hydro-chloroquine effectively in many cases to prevent or cure Covid-19.

What would have been difference for this country and the world if chloroquine had been widely used to combat COVID-19? What difference would it make even today, if chloroquine were used to prevent COVID in teachers, fight COVID in seniors and give hope to everyone who is so fearful of the virus?

As strange as the controversy over COVID and the response to it has been, it is not the first time that something so life giving has been so controversial.  When Jesus came, he gave people life. He healed the sick, drove out demons and proclaimed the kingdom of God.  Jesus relieved anxiety and gave people eternal hope. Yet people called Him a heretic and refused to trust Him. Jesus taught:

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (John 17:3)

Sin like COVID creates anxiety and fear. Sin left untreated, like COVID can lead to death.  The way to eternal life is to know, understand and trust God and Christ by the power of the Spirit.  Chloroquine taken faithfully can prevent and cure COVID. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit of comfort, taken faithfully prevent and cure sin.  Right now there is no rival for Chloroquine against COVID, there will never be a rival to faith in Christ for eternal life.

It is time to for all of us  take our eternal life giving medicine. Stop giving in to anxiety and fear and fight with faith in the one true God.  See Him. No matter what the sources of hardship and suffering are in your life.  God has more power to give life your enemies have to take it.
